ISO TS 22270 aligned technology for HAV monitoring and measurement

Achieve better compliance and improve the long-term health and safety of workers with ISO-aligned technology that supports the management of HAV exposure.

Overview

Advance your approach to HAV monitoring and management

ISO TS 2270 marks a shift from tool-based to person-based HAV measurement, which dramatically improves relevancy in exposure monitoring, facilitates more immediate intervention, drives more proactive and effective HAVS management and supports regulatory compliance

  • Identify ISO-aligned solutions
  • Achieve regulatory compliance
  • Identify real-world worker and tool risk-drivers

Achieve compliance with on-person vibration monitoring

ISO TS 22270 defi nes the essential requirements that a wearable product must meet to be considered suitable for monitoring hand-arm vibration (HAV) directly on the person, rather than on the tool. It empowers organisations to adopt a worker-focussed approach to risk assessment and to develop more effective risk management plans.

  • Practical, unobtrusive risk assessment
  • Comprehensive worker engagement
  • Automatic data collection

Eliminate guesswork from your HAV risk management

Adopt a proactive, data-driven approach to HAV management that sheds light into critical factors which are known to influence worker exposure to vibration. Collect accurate, reliable, data that provides detailed insight into usage patterns, trends and hotspots and variability between workers and applications.

  • Automatically collect real-time, personalised data
  • Transform data into actionable intelligence
  • Implement controls that actually work

Meeting the requirements of ISO TS 22270

ISO TS 22270 identifi es the core components and performance characteristics that any system must include to be considered suitable for supporting the activities needed to comply with legal obligations to manage exposure to HAV in the workplace. Not all wearables actually produce suitable data to inform HAV risk management activities.

ISO TS 22270 FAQs

Does ISO TS 22270 replace ISO 5349?

No. ISO TS 22270 supplements ISO 5349 by providing a more practical measurement methodology which can be readily applied within the workplace. ISO TS 22270 remains consistent with ISO 5349 on the relative importance of duration and magnitude of vibration exposure.

Can I comply with the Control of Vibration at Work Regulations by using ISO TS 22270?

Using a monitor compliant to ISO TS 22270 supports Regulatory compliance, but it does not guarantee it. Compliance with the Regulations requires that HAV exposure is assessed suitably and sufficiently, and reduced as low as reasonably practicable. Using a monitor compliant to ISO TS 22270 will provide a suitable assessment. As a duty holder, your responsibility is to use the monitor sufficiently to develop and implement controls that reduce risk as low as reasonably practicable.

What is the benefit of using an on-person vibration monitor?

ISO TS 22270 compliant on-person vibration monitors provide real-time, personalised data on individual workers’ risk from exposure to HAV. They dramatically increase the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of your exposure monitoring, support better risk management, and help you achieve regulatory compliance.

Does TS22270 include the frequency weighting curve to identify harmful vibrations?

Yes. A device fully compliant with ISO TS 22270 must include the frequency weighting curve of ISO 5349.

When do I need to measure on the tool using ISO 5349?

ISO TS 22270 requires manufacturers to defi ne any limitations of the monitor to measure HAV exposure, for example: tools with signifi cant high frequency vibrations, such as dentist drills. Where an ISO TS 22270 monitor is not suitable, and there is no other credible source of vibration data, then a skilled technician could use the methodology of ISO 5349 to measure HAV with an instrument compliant with ISO 8041.

How do I know if a HAV monitor meets the specifications set forth in ISO TS 22270?

There is no requirement for manufacturers or retailers to state whether their HAV monitors meet the requirements of ISO TS 22270. Before deciding about which solution to adopt and implement, you should inquire as to whether the technology is ISO TS 22270 compliant asking for specifics on what accelerometer technology is used to measure vibration and how the measurement is adjusted for the transmissibility to the measurement point. Finally, is the provider impacted by the patent referenced within the standard.
